After I started school at Cameron University, that all began to change.
Cameron has an event called Gold Rush for incoming Freshman. At this event, there are multiple booths set up to represent different organizations on campus. Well… I saw that Zach was working a table for Baptist Collegiate Ministry, so I talked my roommate, Selina, into going over to check it (him) out with me. It was that day that I started developing a crush on Zach.
From that day forward, when I would see him on campus he would always say hi to me and I would get super nervous. I never knew what to say to him. I would talk to Selina and some people on the cheer team about him all the time.
One day he stopped me and asked me how I was doing. At the time I was really struggling with some things, so I asked him to pray for me. I knew he had a really good heart and that he would actually pray for me if I asked him to. A few days later, he messaged me on Facebook asking how I was doing and told me that he had been praying for me. I was so thankful that he genuinely cared. We ended up talking a little bit more and shortly after he asked me on a date! I was so excited I almost jumped right out of my skin! Three days later we had plans to go to the movies to see Woodlawn, however, we ended up having an unofficial “date” to the haunted house the night before.
I knew that Zach was the one for me the day that he messaged me on Facebook. I have always prayed that I would be with a guy that has a crazy love for Jesus and that has a huge heart for others. Zach and I don't complete each other, because that’s God’s job. We do, however, complement each other perfectly.
Zachary: So I actually fell in love with miss Sydney back in 2011. Unfortunately, she totally shut me down (super awkward), and I thought that was the end of anything there. Thankfully, God had other plans! As soon as I had found out that Sydney was coming to Cameron University, I became very excited. At the time I still believed I had no chance with her, but I was still happy that she would at least be around.
During that fall semester, I had been really working on my personal relationship with God. It was an amazing transformation that God put me through. I had talked to a few other girls both during the summer and that fall, but it just seemed like things weren’t clicking. I could sense God telling me to be patient, and to focus on Him.
God also had me begin to intentionally pray for my future wife. I would pray for specific characteristics that I wanted in my future wife, and that she would have great days, and that He would prepare me for her as well. I also spent a lot of time praying for her own spiritual walk. Gentlemen, if you don’t already do this, you need to! It is so crucial that your wives have solid relationships with God and find their everything in Him and not in you. Trust me, life will go much smoother that way.
Probably the second best prayer I had for my future wife was that God would make it extremely obvious who she was so I wouldn’t have any kind of guess work. I’m sure glad He answered too, because knowing me I would have completely missed it. My blonde kicks in every now and then.
After about three weeks since the prayers really got going, I found myself in our cafeteria getting stopped by one of the guy cheerleaders. He came up to me and plainly asked, “Are you going to ask Sydney for her number or not?” I had no idea what to say or any idea that she was even interested in me! So I told him I would, and went on about my business.
I was actually freaking out on the inside…
Before I contacted Sydney, I took a moment to check with God and I also talked with my good friend Larry, one of my accountability partners. I wanted to make sure that I was being obedient and follow where the Lord was leading. Once I felt like I was given the green light, I quickly hit up that gorgeous girl on Facebook messenger, and well the rest is history.
It has been really fun to look back at how God masterfully orchestrated this whole relationship. None of this would have been possible without His guidance. If there is any advice that we can give, it would be to be patient, relax, and allow God to walk you through step by step. We hoped you enjoyed today’s post! Stay tuned for more!
Have an amazing day! May God bless!
