Well… if you haven’t heard yet, we have some exciting news! We are now engaged!
Didn’t see that coming did ya?
Didn’t see that coming did ya?
For starters, we would just like to thank all of you who showed so much love and support. We have both been so overwhelmed with how many people are excited with us! We can't wait to begin this new and exciting chapter of our lives and bring you all along for the ride! We are beyond blessed to have such an amazing support system!
Now you’re probably wanting to hear all the details of how everything went down, huh? Too bad. Wrong blog post.
Just kidding! Since you all have been just so amazing to us, we decided we could share some more of our story. Check it out!
Sydney: Well… For those of you who maybe don't know, Zach proposed to me on my birthday! I mean, what better day to do it, right?
So Zach drove up from Mt. Vernon, Texas to Duncan for my birthday weekend. We had a cookout planned for Saturday, and invited a pretty good majority of the family to celebrate my 19th birthday. Little did I know we would be celebrating more than that!
Zach and his family were the first people to show up at the cookout. While we waited on everyone else to arrive, we played some cornhole and jumped on the trampoline. Once everyone showed up, we decided to open gifts since lunch was taking a little longer than expected. At that time, Zach awkwardly knelt down beside me to hand me the gifts. After I had opened my gifts from everybody else, he handed me my present from him. I opened it up and it was a beautiful new Bible. But wait… Inscribed on this Bible was the name Sydney Young. My heart immediately starting beating like crazy! I flipped it open to a bookmarked page, and tied to the bookmark was the most amazing ring I had ever laid my eyes on! He even had two verses highlighted (which you can read at the end of this blog). While I was trying to fight back the tears, he grabbed my hand and said, “Sydney Paige, I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. And… Since you have your nails done (that was one of the proposal rules that I gave him)... Will you marry me?” I obviously said yes! I was shaking so bad that I couldn't untie the ring from the bookmark, so I had to make him do it! He was probably shaking worse than I was! When he put that ring on my finger, I experienced a feeling that I had never felt before. It was… Indescribable. It truly was! After hugging a few necks and taking some pictures, I read letters from Zach and his family that were placed in the back of the Bible. I couldn't hold the tears back any longer! It's such an amazing feeling to know that our families support us so much!
Life honestly feels kind of like a dream right now. I'm still on cloud 9 and probably will be for a while! I am, however, already beginning to realize how stressful this upcoming year will be for me, Zach, and our families. Although it is going to be a stressful year, I know it will be an exciting one and I am looking forward to the journey ahead!
Zach: That was pretty good, right? (Cough cough…. “Nailed it!”) That was one exciting moment! I did, however, learn a really big lesson after proposing to Sydney. I had never realized how emotionally, and spiritually draining this experience would be. I had spent so much time and effort on this one occasion, and built up so much energy, but I didn’t prepare for afterwards. About 30 minutes after I proposed, I literally felt like I could sleep for the next week. My energy was non-existent. I felt horrible because I knew Sydney and everyone else was so excited, but there just wasn’t anything left in the tank for me to match them! Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely happy to be engaged, and I am looking forward to this whole journey. At the time, I just struggled with making my face and actions show it. So the big lesson that I learned from this is to depend more on God’s strength in all situations. I am coming closer to the realization that I am not superman, and I need to be humble enough to ask God for help everyday. Once I do that, I am able to be refilled and jump for joy along with everyone else! I am hoping that I can use this new experience to help Sydney and our families during the wedding planning. I have a feeling we might need it every now and then!
So any guys that will be going through this experience, I strongly encourage you to get plenty of rest and pray even more before you proceed!
Sydney: Zach and I could definitely use your prayers! Like I said, it is going to be a stressful year, so we will be needing a lot of peace and comfort. Pray that we don't let the stress affect our friendship negatively. I also ask that you pray that our relationship will continue to grow and always glorify our Lord and Savior! Pray for us as individuals as well, that we will always put God first and each other second.
Zach: She hit the nail on the head. We know that God warns that Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. He definitely doesn’t take a vacation once you get engaged! So be praying that we would look to God for our strength through any issue we face, and for us to cling to His joy! Thank you!
Thank you all again so much! Your love towards us has been truly amazing. Thank you for continuing to read these posts and keep up with us! We will do our best to keep posting and update you regularly. As we walk on in this forever journey, we will continue to seek God’s face and let you know how we are growing!
If anyone has some ideas or questions that you would like us to talk about in another post, just let us know! We would absolutely love to hear your thoughts! This blog is a tool for us to reach out with the love of Christ and help others to grow in their own relationships with Jesus. If you all think of any ways we can better do that, please let us know!
Zach: I have some quick advice for any guys looking to propose any time soon. Do not, I repeat DO NOT jump on a trampoline before you propose. There are a lot of hugs headed your way after you propose, and no one likes a sweaty hug. You can thank me later!
